St Jerome

(c. 347–420) Dalmatian priest, Doctor of the Church, and translator of the Latin Vulgate. He retired to a cave near Bethlehem and worked for years on the Hebrew Old Testament. 'Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.'
