(1412–1431) Peasant girl of Domrémy whose voices sent her, at seventeen, to raise the siege of Orléans and crown the Dauphin at Reims. Captured and tried by a rigged church court, she was burned at Rouen at nineteen; a papal court annulled the verdict in 1456.
